On Friday, March 7, Chiara Scaini, a researcher at OGS and involved in the Interreg WABIN project, held a lecture at CEFAP in Codroipo dedicated to the knowledge and protection of surface and groundwater, with a focus on the secondary hydrographic network.
In the first part of the session, Scaini provided students with practical insights into water-related ecosystem services, emphasizing the value of water resources and their role in maintaining natural balance. The explanation was enriched with images and examples from the local context, including references to the landscapes between the Tagliamento River, the Stella, the Isonzo, and the resurgences of central Friuli.
This was followed by an open dialogue with students and teachers, offering everyone the opportunity to share their personal experiences with water and its multiple values. The students’ stories proved particularly meaningful, highlighting both the practical aspects of water use in agriculture and fishing, as well as a deep knowledge of the territory, with special attention to riparian forests and the bends and meanders of the rivers near their homes.
In the final part of the approximately three-hour class, students, divided into small groups, reflected on what had been discussed and began drafting their contributions to be submitted to the Wigwam Award for the Italian Press, an initiative promoting sustainability and territorial resilience. In the coming days, field trips are planned, especially along the Tagliamento River and in the Biotope of Flambro area, where students will have the chance to explore and discuss in the field the concepts learned in class.
The experience was made possible thanks to the support of tutors Enrica Macor and Chiara Gubini, and the active participation of teachers Walter Fantuz and Damiano Spagnolo, who enthusiastically engaged the students, fostering participatory and stimulating learning.
