Trieste, 26 September 2025 – The Interreg Italy–Slovenia WABIN project took part in the 2025 edition of Street Science, the science communication event held under the arcades of Trieste’s City Hall as part of the European Researchers' Night.
In an informal and engaging setting, researchers from various scientific institutions in the area presented their work directly to passersby, intrigued by the short “science-on-the-street” talks designed to make research accessible to everyone.
Representing the WABIN project was Goran Vižintin, Professor of Applied Geophysics at the University of Ljubljana, speaking on behalf of the Polo Tecnologico Alto Adriatico, with a talk entitled:
“Ecosystems and Sustainability: Integrated Management of Transboundary Water Resources”.
The presentation provided a clear and accessible overview of WABIN’s work to promote cooperation between Italy and Slovenia in the shared management of water resources—particularly in the hydrogeological basin of the Isonzo/Soča River, increasingly threatened by climate change and human pressure.
Through the explanation of WABIN’s multidisciplinary approach—combining 3D modelling, geological data, participatory tools and cross-border protocols—the audience learned how science can be a concrete tool for addressing environmental challenges and building bridges across territories.
The event drew a good turnout of the public, with young people, families, and curious visitors stopping to listen, ask questions, and engage directly with researchers.
Special thanks go to SIS FVG – the Scientific and Innovation System of Friuli Venezia Giulia, the promoter of the initiative, for once again creating an open, interactive, and inspiring space for science and its voices.
