eStoriaBus: THE GREAT WAR AND FAITH

The new eStoriaBus takes us to sites of the First World War to explore a frequently overlooked aspect of the conflict: the relationship between faith, spirituality, and life at the front. The history of the Isonzo Front is not only about weapons and battles, but also about prayers, symbols, rituals, and questions that transcend time.

The first stop of this excursion will be Gorjansko, a settlement in the immediate hinterland of the Karst battlefield, where on its outskirts lies the largest Austro-Hungarian military cemetery on Slovenian territory from the First World War, with its characteristic gravestones and monumental enclosure.

This will be followed by a break for a packed lunch (or a visit to a local bar) at the Peace Memorial on Cerje, which stands on the site of the 1917 offensives and offers a view over the Goriška plain. After the visit, the route continues across the Italian border into the Vallone di Doberdò area, where in the village of Vižintini / Visintini we will visit the Hungarian chapel and a nearby former military cemetery used first by Austro-Hungarian and later by Italian troops.

The final stop will be in the settlement of Berne, where we will visit a picturesque abandoned cemetery with overgrown gravestones and a ruined chapel.

Participation is free of charge, but prior reservation is required.
