At the Gallery of the Faculty of Education, University of Ljubljana, from 20 April to 24 May 2026, part of the exhibition Microworld of the Karst: Forms and Colours Captured in Rocks is on display. The exhibition was created within the framework of the Interreg IT-SLO project Kras–Carso II – Joint Management and Sustainable Development of the Classical Karst Area. The exhibited photographs take the viewer into the fascinating world of various types of rocks from the Classical Karst as seen under a microscope. The introductory panels present a popular-scientific explanation of microscopic fossils, minerals, and the environments in which the displayed rocks were formed in the geological past.
The exhibition was created as a joint result of the collaboration between Ingrid Urban, Nerea Preta and Bernardo Cesare from the University of Padua, Lorenzo Consorti (CNR-ISMAR Trieste), and Sara Bensi (Geological Survey of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region). Many of the photographed samples come from the collection of Bogdan Jurkovšek, which is housed at GeoZS. The author of most of the photographs, Bernardo Cesare from the University of Padua, has received multiple awards for his microscope photography at international competitions.
