The GOin4SAFETY event, a cross-border exercise that will take place in the territorial area between Gorizia, Nova Gorica, Šempeter-Vrtojba, will take place from Thursday 5 to Sunday 8 June 2025. The initiative aims to improve preparedness and coordination in emergency management, with a focus on seismic risks, chain events such as landslides and fires, accidents with hazardous materials and disasters linked to climate change. The training program developed included seminars for municipal staff, volunteers, students and citizens, as well as an exercise for command posts with simulation of critical events. The cross-border exercise will see the participation of over 500 civil protection operators, security forces, volunteer organizations, local authorities from Friuli Venezia Giulia, Veneto, Slovenia and the involvement of teams from Croatia, Germany.

GOin4SAFETY was born from the IN4SAFETY project, funded under the Interreg Italy-Slovenia Programme, aimed at strengthening climate resilience and the ability to respond to emergencies through concrete collaboration between Italy and Slovenia. GOin4SAFETY represents a concrete example of European collaboration at local level, which aims to promote a culture of prevention, shared risk management and safety of the territory and the community.

The Municipality of Gorizia, together with the Regional Civil Protection of FVG, the Institute of International Sociology of Gorizia (ISIG) and Gasilska Enota Nova Gorica (GENG), are the organizers of the initiative, with the support of the insurance company Triglav and the Administration for the protection and rescue of the Republic of Slovenia, demonstrating an active commitment to building a safer and more coordinated local system. In the IN4SAFETY partnership, the territory of Gorizia and Nova Gorica is represented by the Municipalities of the two cities, by the Fire Brigade of Nova Gorica and by ISIG - Institute of International Sociology of Gorizia, which also took care of the scientific and operational organization of the event.

The operational areas of the exercise also include the Duca d’Aosta Airport in Gorizia, a strategic structure that, thanks to its large extension, is particularly suitable for hosting exercises with a large number of participants. The airport will also provide essential operational support for the creation of complex scenarios, contributing to the success of the planned activities.

The exercise also enjoys the support of the European Capital of Culture, thanks to a memorandum of understanding signed between the parties involved. The initiative is in fact part of the calendar of events promoted by GO! 2025 - European Capital of Culture, which, precisely because of its cross-border nature, promotes the construction of a shared urban space.
