On June 25 and 26, representatives of the Interreg Italy-Slovenia Programme and 15 projects funded by it participated in the event Paths That Last – Collaborating for a Sustainable Tourism in the Mediterranean, held in Split. The initiative was organized by the Multi-Programme Mechanism on Sustainable Tourism in the Mediterranean (MMM), involving representatives from eight participating Interreg programmes and their respective projects, gathered to define a joint call on sustainable tourism. This marked a significant step toward more integrated operational coordination among European programmes.
The MMM, established in 2022 at the initiative of the Department for Cohesion Policy, currently involves eight Interreg programmes: Italy-Slovenia, Greece-Cyprus, Italy-Croatia, Italy-France Maritime, Italy-Malta, Italy-Tunisia, Interreg Euro-MED, and Interreg NEXT MED. The mechanism aims to create synergies between programmes and projects to optimize the use of public resources in the Mediterranean, with two main objectives: improving coordination among initiatives and enhancing the impact of good practices and innovative solutions developed at the local level. In particular, it seeks to facilitate the transfer of effective experiences and strengthen policy recommendations to ensure the sustainability and long-term impact of investments across different regions.
The Split meeting marked the beginning of the path toward a coordinated call and represented an important opportunity for dialogue among managing authorities, beneficiaries, and stakeholders, promoting new opportunities for visibility and cooperation. The event aimed to capitalize on the results of funded projects, encourage the exchange of good practices, and contribute to the definition of a shared strategy for the future of tourism in the Mediterranean basin.
During the first day, representatives of the Italy-Slovenia Programme and the projects took part in the plenary session, while on the second day they participated in thematic workshops dedicated to sustainable tourism and innovation in the sector.
The 15 participating projects are: 4P, CrossTerm, DANTE, Engreen 2, KAŠTellieri, Kras/Carso II, MEDS GARDEN+, POSEIDONE, PRIMIS PLUS, Tartini bis, WALKofPEACE+, ITINERANT, ADRIONCYCLETOUR, DAIRY+, and X-BRAIN.net.
