WoodInnovate
Specific objective: SO 4 - Promoting climate change adaptation and disaster risk prevention, resilience, taking into account eco-system based approaches
Typology: Standard project
The WoodInnovate project focuses on addressing challenges in the forest-wood chain within the Alpine-Adriatic region, significantly affected by climate change. These impacts include altered forest species composition, reduced wood quality and availability, and increased natural disasters and pest outbreaks, such as the widespread infestation of bark beetles. The project seeks to assess how climate change influences forest composition, soil protection, ecosystem health and wood quality.
- analyse the forest-wood supply chain, map the state of forests and identify the impacts of climate change and bark beetles;
- carry out pilot projects for the innovative use of bark beetle-affected wood, test its properties, improve its quality and create prototypes of urban furniture;
- organise training on sustainable practices, create a model forest for demonstrations and promote collaboration among stakeholders.
The primary objective is to valorize wood affected by bark beetles and other natural disaters, turning it in to a sustainable constructing housing elements. The project contributes to reducing natural resource usage, promoting renewable materials, and mitigating climate change impacts by developing innovative wood processing models.
