Project summary

Policy objective: PO 2 - A greener, low-carbon transitioning towards a net zero carbon economy and resilient Europe by promoting clean and fair energy transition, green and blue investment, the circular economy, climate change mitigation and adaptation and risk prevention and management

Specific objectiveSO 4 - Promoting climate change adaptation and disaster risk prevention, resilience, taking into account eco-system based approaches

TypologyStandard project

CLISHE addresses adaptation to extreme heat through climate shelters, a strategy which provides easily accessible places with comfortable climatic conditions, especially for the most vulnerable social groups. This is a strategy that has only recently emerged, so there are still aspects to be investigated. CLISHE tackles three of them, which constitute the innovative character of the proposal: the replicability of climate shelters in different contexts; their ability to include different social groups, especially the most vulnerable ones; and the possibility of making them effective vectors for public awareness of the effects of climate change.

Objectives
  • to develop a common methodology for the creation and management of climate shelters that is replicable, scalable, and transferable
Output

By promoting transnational cooperation between local authorities, associations and research institutions, the project enhances the exchange of each partner's expertise, so as to amplify the learning potential and scalability of solutions, ensuring that project results are transferable and adaptable to other territories facing similar challenges. The impact of the project will be demonstrated through the pilot initiatives, which, for sustainability purposes, will adapt existing buildings and/or places, including through ephemeral structures. The climate shelters thus created will directly benefit local communities. The methodology that will be derived through these experiences will allow for scalability and transferability to other contexts, with the extension of benefits to other communities and institutions.
