The Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia will be present in the picturesque city of Balatonfüred to take part in the annual EuroVelo Conference, a key event for all operators and stakeholders in the cycling and tourism sectors. This event represents a unique opportunity for discussion, dialogue, and exchange of ideas on the latest developments in cycling tourism, cycling networks, and in particular the EuroVelo network, which continues to expand across Europe with increasingly integrated and sustainable routes.

Balatonfüred, known for its enchanting landscape and as one of Hungary’s most popular tourist destinations, lies along the EuroVelo 14 route, the most recent addition to the EuroVelo network. This strategic location makes the city an ideal venue for the conference, which is jointly organized by the European Cyclists’ Federation, the Hungarian Cycling Tourism Association, the Centre for Development of Active and Ecotourism, Active Hungary, and the Municipality of Balatonfüred.

The main theme of the 2025 edition will be “Cycling Towards a Sustainable Future”, a highly topical subject that highlights the ability of cycling to contribute significantly to economic, social, and environmental sustainability. The event will explore the many benefits of cycling—not only as a means of transport and tourism, but also as a driver for local economic development, public health, and social cohesion. The discussion will also focus on the challenge of promoting cycling mobility while protecting the environment and mitigating the effects of climate change, with the goal of building tourism and mobility models that are increasingly respectful of nature and host communities.

As a testament to the importance and relevance of the event, the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia will be represented by the Central Directorate for Infrastructure and Territory, through the Service for Organization, Planning, and European Projects. The Region’s participation is made possible thanks to the Adrioncycletour project, part of the Interreg VI-A Italy–Slovenia Cross-Border Cooperation Programme 2021–2027, and the CYROS project, developed under the Interreg VI-A Italy–Croatia Cross-Border Cooperation Programme 2021–2027. These two projects demonstrate the Region’s concrete commitment to promoting sustainable mobility and developing European initiatives aimed at strengthening the cycling network and opportunities for slow tourism, both regionally and across borders.
